We have been in the Philippines now for two weeks. We arrived a day after the typhoon came. Our house was fine with the exception of a couple of small large bushes that were down and our phone line is still not working. We were fortunate to have power when we arrived. But the next day we lost power for a few hours in the afternoon. We went to the mall that evening to get money, purchase food and get our cell phones working. We were thrilled to have electricity when we returned.
Walter started the very next day after our arrival by helping out at the new staff orientation. It was great for him to meet the new staff and get started into his role as the middle school principal. One week after we arrived, we attended the all staff retreat. It was an encouraging time to renew friendships, make new ones, and be refreshed in God’s Word. We were reminded of God’s grace extended to us as we prepare for another school year.

Today was the first day of school for the students. Walter was busy helping his staff prepare for the school year and helping parents and new students to be ready for their first day of school. Abby has been making new friends as well as meeting up with her old friends as she begins her first day of high school. She has also been attending the open gym getting ready for volleyball tryouts. It was fun for me to start working in the new health office and learning to use the new computer system for our record keeping.
We are still without a vehicle. We have a friend looking for one for us. We have looked at two and are waiting to see if there is another one for us to look at before we decide. Used vehicles are much higher priced than we expected. We have been using a school van in the meantime but that has its limitations as well. Please pray for us that we will find one soon and that our van in the US will sell soon.
Also, continue to pray for the adjustments of the new staff to school and the Philippines, for staff still raising support to come help, for our adjustments to new jobs, and the challenges our jobs bring.
We were encouraged that we were able to Skype each one of our family members. They are all doing well, and it was fun talking with them.
Thank you for your prayers for us and for our ministry.
In Christ,
Cheryl for the Spicers
