May was a busy month as we wrapped up the 17-18 School Year. Walter with his duties as the middle school principal, Abby as a graduating senior, and Cheryl as the head nurse. We enjoyed the many end-of-the-year events. It was joyous yet sad as we saw this chapter close. Abby will be heading to college and Walter handed over the principal duties to Leighton Helwig. Leighton will be the MSD Principal next year and forward. When we return in July of 2019, Walter will still be on the middle school leadership team, but pray with us as we discern his exact role. One possibility is to finish our Tagalog study so we can have a more effective ministry in the Philippines.
In June, we had a good trip back to the US for our home assignment. Cheryl and Abby went ahead of Walter to get started on Abby’s job applications and obtain Abby’s driver’s permit. We are thankful that Abby was able to get 2 part-time jobs! They are a great experience for her and she earned some needed money for college. She will be moving to college in about 2 weeks (Calvary University in Kansas City). Pray for Abby as she transitions to college life and being on her own, plus pray that she may get a job close to the college campus.
Pray as we plan for our home assignment during this coming school year. We are still getting settled into our home in Rose Hill, KS, and have enjoyed many family times, including two camping trips with some of our adult children.
In addition to our family times and settling into life in the US, Walter has been busy helping his sister (a widow) pack up her house to sell. Once it is sold, Walter will help his mother get her house ready to sell, move into our house, and go through his father’s things. We are thankful for this opportunity to help his family.
Pray for wisdom as we contact individuals and churches, making plans for our travels this year. Pray that we will be used of God, challenging and encouraging people.
Lastly, pray for Faith Academy as they have already started the next school year. We are thankful for the many new staff members. Please continue to pray for those that are still raising their support to teach at FA and pray for those positions needed to be filled.
In Christ,
Walter and Cheryl Spicer
