First semester is now history, but Walter needs to finish grading several of his students’ projects. Plus he will work on his lesson plans to prepare for second semester. Second semester will be busier with Outdoor Ed. Things shifted some and he is taking on more duties for Outdoor Ed. Plus after Outdoor Ed, he will be learning more of his new role as Deputy Head, preparing for next year. Please pray for strength and wisdom as he completes these ministries and transitions to his new role for next year.
At the end of first semester, the middle school sets aside one day for ministry. I went with a group of students to a hospital, handing out care packages and gospel bracelets. I love to see our middle school students go through the gospel with the simple tool that God uses mightily. We partner with a local Bible college to help as our Tagalog is limited, but about 50 people prayed to receive Jesus as their Savior. It was exciting to see our students be a light, sharing the Gospel.
As we mentioned in our last letter, Walter has been talking with the director of an orphanage. The present plan is that the director will take the older girls to a camp, and Cheryl and I will take the elementary-aged girls on day trips for two days. One day we will simply enjoy the facilities at Faith Academy, playing at the playground and the basketball court in the morning and swimming in the afternoon. Then on the next day, we will drive to a beautiful, small waterfall that is safe for elementary kids–they told me that they love to swim, so they will get their fill of swimming. Please pray for safety and that we will bond well with the girls so we can be a blessing and encouragement.
This will be our first Christmas with no family. God’s grace is always sufficient and we are learning to be empty nesters. We are so thankful that we can talk and see our family over the internet. We will enjoy hanging out with some friends here in the Philippines as well.
Last year we read the book, Experiencing God, by Blackaby, and this year Cheryl and I did the Bible study, Experiencing God, as a couple. We thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it. God challenged our personal walk with God and our walk with God as a couple, growing closer to Him and each other. We learned so much about listening to the voice of God as He directs our life. We are so excited to join God in His work in the Philippines.
Our Christmas break has quickly filled up, but we are excited to see how God will use us, spend some time relaxing, and worshipping our Savior as we reflect on his birth, life, death, and resurrection–our Hope and Life.
Merry Christmas and thank you for praying for us!
Walter and Cheryl
