It is after the New Year, and we are still here in the US. We thought we might be done with surprises, but I guess not. Just a few days before we were to fly to the Philippines, the Philippine government put a travel ban until January 15 to foreigners traveling from or through certain countries because they all have the new strain of the coronavirus. We had to change our ticket to fly direct to the Philippines since we were traveling through South Korea, which was on the list. By the next day, the US was included in that list. So again, we are stuck in the US. We are praying that the ban will be lifted by January 15 and not extended. If so, then we will fly to the Philippines on January 16.
Since we already had plans in place on our way to Kansas City for our flight on January 3, we decided to continue with the plans. Part of the plan was to be around for Wade Smith’s proposal to our youngest, Abby, and she said, “YES!” It was fun to celebrate that with Wade, Abby and Juliana. We enjoyed more time with Patrick and Ashley at their new (and very icy) home and also to celebrate Abby’s 21st birthday later with Paul and Bekah and more time with Cooper.
School starts again in the Philippines, so we are back to late night meetings. Continue to pray with us that the travel ban will be lifted so we, more school staff, and other missionaries will be able to return to the Philippines.
Resting in God’s wisdom and timing,
Cheryl Spicer
