News from PNG

May 4, 2020 by Wayne and Diane Baker

We have been back in the States for almost 2 months now. We had to move from where we were staying when we first arrived but are thankful that the Lord provided another home for us for the remainder of our furlough.

We are thankful that our scheduled time to leave for home assignment was before many of the airlines shut down. Much of PNG is still shut down with few flights available. New Tribes Mission Aviation has also closed down their flight program for the time being. Many of our fellow missionaries are thankful that the PNG consulate arranged for several Ethnos360 families to be able to fly home. Those missionaries still in PNG are presently residing at the mission regional centers because of the lack of flights and travel bans.

Though much of PNG has been shut down like the rest of the world, there has thankfully only been 6 recorded cases in all of PNG with no fatalities.

PNG Man Chewing Betel Nut

One of the PNG news papers reported that the chewing of betel nut, very popular among Papua New Guineas, may be a preventive to the Corona Virus. Who knew? Sorry, we only brought back a limited amount, order now while supply lasts. 🙂
