Here in Menya we have begun a new literacy class so that the believers can read and write in their own language. It has been exciting to see the commitment of both the new literacy teachers that are training and the students. As subsistence farmers a lot of the peoples day is taken up with maintaining their gardens. They have to grow enough food to feed their families and gather fire wood to cook all their meals. This takes a good amount of their time, because most families have at least 4-5 kids, and in some cases up to 7 or 8 kids! Thats a lot of mouths to feed. This class is a majority of women, 15 of the 20 students are women. In the Menya culture the women do the lion share of the garden work, gathering firewood, cooking and taking care of the kids. Seeing their commitment has been very encouraging. The reason they are staying motivated is because they are saying amongst themselves, “I want to read Romans too.” We will begin teaching Romans to the Menya church this Sunday and will continue for the next few months. Pray that all the students will continue to remain motivated and the ladies will be able to keep up with their work load. Also, it would be nice if the husbands, most of whom are already literate would step up and be supportive and help out with the chores that are out of their cultural roles. So please be praying with us about that. #athirivingchurchformenya
