April 7, 2019 by Alberto and Nancy Gonzalez As he was teaching the Cuivas people, Eliodoro shared this testimony about what God showed him and how he convinced him to turn from his old animistic beliefs: “Mark and Alberto encouraged me to teach a group of believers about animism. These were very clear truths from the Word about trusting in God and not in our own beliefs. As I shared them, I realized that what I was teaching was just words coming out of my mouth, but not from my heart. In the following months I kept thinking about that teaching. On one occasion, I went out hunting with my dog and when I was in the middle of the jungle, I heard the call of a bird which, according to our traditional beliefs was warning me that something bad would happen if I kept hunting. This really scared me, and I stopped in my tracks. My dog kept running but he stopped further ahead to wait for me. At that moment, frozen in fear, I thought: ‘Am I going to trust in God and believe that He is going to protect me from all harm and provide food for my family? Or am I going to turn back in fear, obeying Satan and the deceitful beliefs from him. I decided to trust in God and kept walking. Just a few yards later, my dog barked because he had seen a ‘lapa’ and I thought, ‘Thank you God; this is your provision.’’ Eliodoro continued: “The time will come in your lives when you will have to make the decision to either obey Satan and his beliefs or believe God. For me, this was the day that I made the decision to believe God.”
