Expect the unexpected.

September 12, 2010 by Angela Ketcham

The unexpected.
The unexpected.

I’m sure you’ve all heard the expression.  But I am finding it to be SO TRUE here!  This weekend I went down to the Centro to shop (again) with some friends.  And I was once again reminded to ‘expect the unexpected.’  The photo above is of chickens being skinned right there on the side of the street.  Note the flesh/feather pile at the bottom of the pic.  Ewwww!  (I just had to take a pic.)  I’m finding that I need to expect the unexpected often here, because it’s true in many cases.   Sometimes we think, “Oh, I’m just going to ‘run’ to the store ‘real quick.'”  Only to find that it takes over an hour.  Or going to the post office to mail a letter & pick up some new stamps…and every pregnant woman & old lady who lives anywhere near the place decides at the same time to come (they are allowed to cut in line…it’s culture).  So even though you are ‘next’, you end up standing there for 30 min’s or more.  The place that is kind-of like Wal-Mart, is just crazy.  We stand in line (in general) for at least 45 min’s to an hour EACH time we go.  Adjusting to these cultural differences can be challenging at times.  🙂  But we are representing Christ to people who don’t know Him….and that helps us to remember to be patient, to be kind & to love those around us.

So far our time here has been very busy, new & challenging.  We do PRAISE THE LORD though.  He is working in us & our children.  He’s also giving us opportunities to share His love with others….and that’s really why we are here.

PRAYER REQUEST:  We’ve been made aware that there are some men in the neighborhood who might be trying to target some of the American women.  We are no longer allowed to walk alone (without a man) in our neighborhood.  Please pray for safety for our families.

Joel has started reading “The Lamb Book” to some of the neighborhood children.  Pray that they will see their need for Christ.

Wisdom in how we can best show the love of Christ to those around us.

That we will continue to learn Portg. well.

Thank you to all of you who support us through prayer, encouragment & financal support.  We are privilaged to work WITH YOU while SERVING CHRIST!
