Camping for Christ

Boys' Hammocks

What is this, you ask?  Actually it’s just a title I made up. 🙂  But there is meaning behind it.  Last weekend Joel & I went on a camping trip with the 6th & 7th graders.  You see, every semester the 7th & 8th grade classes, as well as the high school students, get to take a camping trip.  It’s a special time for them to take a break from school, fellowship, work on unity (they do all the planning, cooking, cleaning up, etc.) and just have some FUN!  This semester the 6th grade class got to go because there is no 8th grade class. 🙂  And let me tell you, they were pretty excited too!

Anyway, “Camping for Christ”…I thought of this because camping during RAINY season, on the river (where there are LOTS of mosquitos!)- just isn’t my ideal idea of fun.  Don’t get me wrong, I like camping…American style (with an RV, beds, windows, etc….ha!), but this kind of camping is different.  However, when I thought of Christ, I knew I could do it…and have fun too.

Joel & Josiah (since he is a "pre-schooler," he was allowed to go with us...Ethan & Summer stayed w/ Joel's parents) working on our tent...yes, I requested a tent to sleep in!

You see, by teaching these kids, giving them fun things to do (like camping), being friends/mentors/fill-in parents for them…we are allowing their parents to not worry while they are working in a tribe translating the Word of God into an unwritten language.  That’s right…the tribes NTM goes to, doesn’t have written languages.  The missionaries there learn the language, create a written alphebet, teach the tribal people how to read their own language, AND THEN translate the Bible.  It’s hard work!!!  And sometimes it’s not safe for children to live in the tribes…the culture is too different & the parents can’t do the work for needing to watch, care for & educate their children.

So that’s where we come in…”Camping for Christ.”  And that is where YOU come in too.  You are our support & encouragement.  By ALL OF US working TOGETHER, we are reaching people without the Word of God.

Thank you for your part!!!!
