Part of learning about life here in Amdu is doing what the people do. A big part of life for our Amdu friends is their gardens. Depending on where their family ground is located, their gardens are sometimes several hours away from the village – most often on steep mountain slopes. Gardening here is not just a hobby; it is their means of survival. There are no grocery stores so just about everything they eat comes from their gardens. Many people build another house in their garden so they don’t always have to make the trip back and forth to the village after a long day of work.
Today our older two boys are getting to experience a new part of Amdu life! They hiked with Bart and several of our Amdu friends to work in a friend’s garden. They will all spend the night in our friend’s garden house and then return tomorrow after helping out in the garden. Now, saying house might give you an inaccurate picture; hut would be a better description. “Houses” here are made out of materials from the jungle – grass roof, bark walls… They are usually one room with an open fire pit in the middle. Everyone just sleeps on the hard floor around the fire.
Here is part of the group as they headed out earlier today. We’ll see what stories the boys have when they come back tomorrow!!
Thanks for praying for our family and our team as we work hard to learn the language and culture of the Amdu people so that we might be able to share the Good News of God’s message with them.

Hi Bart & Emily.
I was able to print this as a pdf with the photo for the church family. It will be in their church mailboxes for them this Sunday, March 1st. I will continue to do this with each blog.

Hi Bart & Emily.
I sure hope the trip to the garden is a fun and interesting one for everyone. Sure sounds like it will be an adventure to say the least but daily life is an adventure there anyway I would imagine. I hope the little boy on the right in the picture cheered up. He looks a bit angry! : ) What did Luke say to him???
