Somehow, a month has already flown by. Life has been pretty good. We’re continuing to develope relationships with fellow students and with staff. These relationships are very important to us because we need the love, encouragement , growth, and the accountability that comes with the relationship. It is our desire to not only gain the knowledge it takes to be a missionary but to become the growing, learning, Christ-follower that God wants us to be, so that we can be fully effective in our ministry.
So what have I been doing for a month? Well, morning are spent in class; (Culture/Language Learning Intro, Form and Meaning in translating, Time Management, Learning Styles). Three afternoons a week I work on the grounds crew mowing or seeding around campus. Wednesday nights I help with Young Life. Young Life is an outreach to unsaved Highschoolers. We sing popular secular songs, play crazy games, and have a short ‘talk’ about Jesus. I hope to build relationships with a few teen guys through this and be able to spend time with them and share Christ with them outside of Young Life. I should have more to share about Young Life in a few weeks as we’re just getting started.
Maggie enjoys playing volleyball and basketball with students and staff one night a week and I enjoy playing football with a group of guys saturday mornings. We get to play on the astroturf field at the local highschool. Its a pretty sweet field. Also, every other friday night I get together with four other guys and we play Twilight Imperium. Its a strategy board game that takes hours and hours. As of now, we have yet to finish a game, but we’re determined to play a whole game next time.
Warm days we’re often at the beach taking our kids swimming and seeing what new tricks (or ways we can kill ourselves) can be done on the rope swing. The staff’s houses are always open and we’ve spent time just visiting with them, and we often get together with neighbors to play cards.
We’ve settled on the Potter’s House church. It is a church of a couple hundred, has contemporary worship, Biblical teaching, and a fun children’s program.
Its been a good month. Our van is still running, (294,000+ miles), our apartment is great, and we’re fairly healthy. Thanks for your prayers, encouragement, and support.
