One of the things on my “I want to see/do in Papua New Guinea” list was to see the dangerous and feared muruk bird. They live in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and can be quite dangerous as a full grown one has the leg power to break bones or bash skulls. While, thankfully, I did not run into one hiking alone on the jungle trails, I did get to see one in a village less than an hour’s hike from our house. This young muruk was trapped by some Pal people and they now keep it caged. Once grown, I’m pretty sure (but not certain) that they’ll be eating it. Anyways, it was a pretty cool looking bird and I’m glad I had the privilege of meeting one.
