We recently had our second Culture and Language Evaluations. Our ‘job’ is to acquire the Pal language and culture before moving on to other things like translation and lesson writing. We had two consultants come and stay with us for two days and evaluate where we are in our culture and language acquisition. The different levels of the rating system are Basic Low, Basic Mid, Basic High, Proggressing Low, Mid, and High, and Capable Low, Mid, and High. Once we reach Capable High then we no longer focus on language study although our language abilities will still continue to improve as we live and work with the Pal people. Our first CLA evaluations were last August. Chris checked at Progressing Low and Maggie at Progressing Mid. How did we do this time? Did we make it all the way? Or did we regress?
Well, we’re not done yet, but we’re mighty close. We both checked at Capable Mid, one tiny step away from ‘done’. But, whether we’re ready or not, our time and energy will at least be partially torn away from language study as we start the first literacy class in a couple weeks. Chris will be heading up the literacy program over the next few months and Maggie will be working on translating short books (educational ones and ones for enjoyment) so our future Pal literates have something to read.
