We have had 4 young ladies homeschool our kids for a total of 5 school years over the last 10 years. Here is what they have to say:
Bobbi Easton (Sept 2006-May 2008)
“Going to the Philippines to teach the Talbot kids grew me in so many ways I did not expect. I had experiences and met people who have had a lasting impact on my life. My decision to go to Bible College and Nursing school were both a result of the impact my time overseas had on my life. I am so thankful to have had this opportunity and continue to enjoy the blessings it has brought to my life.”
Jessica Peschka (Wease) (Sept 2009-June 2010)
“I spent one year with the Talbot family in the Philippines, homeschooling their children, and wish I could do it again! My year with the Talbot family overseas was invaluable and an incredible experience. I have always had a love for teaching and for children, and I enjoyed being able to be a blessing to the family by homeschooling their kids. I find such joy in seeing and helping kids learn, and got to do just that! Living with a missionary family overseas also opened my eyes to another culture, language, and the reality of unreached people groups. I would highly recommend seizing such a great opportunity to anyone with a heart for children, teaching, and missions!”
Teacher #3- Lindy Leonard (Meeker) (Aug 2013- April 2014)
“I lived with the Talbots for 8 months as their teacher, and God used that time to grow me in so many ways. I was able to experience the life of a long-term missionary first hand, get outside of my own cultural bubble, and be challenged by the sobering reality of living among people who do not yet have the gospel. I treasured the relationships I formed with the Talbot kids, and truly felt like family. I saw God’s faithfulness again and again in living far from home and facing a task I knew was far beyond my own abilities. If you feel the Lord’s leading to live overseas as a homeschool teacher, by all means, GO!”
Teacher #4- Samantha Carr (Sept 2014- May 2015)
“I have heard many times in my life, from teachers, coaches, and mentors, that teachers learn just as much from their students as do the students. After my time in the Ga’dang village with the Talbot family, I would have to agree 100%. The Lord taught me so much over my time in the Philippines, and through my time teaching. It was better than I could have imagined, and I grew more than I could have hoped. Each family member has a special place in my heart, and I’m eternally grateful that the Lord brought me into their lives. If you are considering taking a year to homeschool the Talbot children, I would encourage it. It was not in my plan, but as soon as God placed it on my heart, I knew I had no other choice. His grace was sufficient through that time, and I had an opportunity to rely on Him in a new way. Keep your heart open to something new! God is good!”
