As God allows various trials in our lives it can often test our faith, but will bring the much needed endurance. Recently, when Dave was visiting via shortwave radio with one of the Ivanga Bible teachers in the village, he asked us to pray for them as they work to rebuild a number of houses that were lost a recent flood. Many of them also lost the gardens they depend on to feed their families because they tend plant in the fertile soil close to the river’s edge. He wanted us to know that they continue to meet together as a church family and two young teachers are currently helping teach through Romans. They are also continuing to teach a young literacy class. Their faithfulness in the midst of trouble is such a testimony of growth in their lives as they persevere in the midst of hard times. These Ivanga men and women of faith are such a challenge to keep pressing on knowing that when the hard times come they will have their perfect result to bring maturity and hope. Please hold the Ivangas up in prayer during this time of rebuilding and replanting. Pray that God would use this time to encourage them through His Word and through the fellowship of the body.
This summer while assisting in Port Moresby we had some fun opportunities. Caitie was able to meet the Ambassador to this region of the South Pacific and we all enjoyed chatting with him and his staff about their work in Papua New Guinea.
In late July we said good-bye to the city life and returned to Goroka. Going to Port Moresby was not something that I (Shirley) was very excited about, but Dave felt it was the right thing for us this summer and there was a need waiting to be filled. So….I said, “Yes, let’s go”. I was doubtful, but God sure surprised me and gave us a wonderful, encouraging time. It was great to be a part of a very diverse local church, Bible fellowship group, and a to enjoy the benefits of the city for a little while. We even went to the movies! Something new in this land of the unexpected.
