Matthew 22
Devotional Thoughts
In this story Jesus is referring to the religious leaders as the invited guests to the wedding feast of His Son. God’s invitation was Jesus. Jesus came to offer them the kingdom. But, they didn’t want to come. Instead they beat and even killed the messenger. So, God went and invited others. It appears that Jesus is saying that it was the “others” who were the ones he chose (Matt 22:14) Many were invited… the religious leaders, the line of Judah were all invited. But, they did not deserve to come, because they rejected the invitation and abused and killed the messenger. So, God “chose” the others.
This upset the Pharisees and caused them to begin looking for ways to trap Jesus in order to build a case against him.
Those who thought they were God’s chosen people, rejected God’s invitation, and were therefore not invited, and not part of the wedding feast. But, the ones God chose were not the elite, the popular, even the religious. God chose the good and bad alike. That’s you and I! Those who were willing to receive His invitation, wear the wedding attire (Matt 22:12) which for us is Jesus in us ((2 Cor 5:21), and join him for the celebration.
Declarations
- I am chosen by God. Before the foundation of the world, He chose me! (Eph 1:4) He adopted me to be his son, even though he knows what I am really like. (Eph 1:5)
- Who am I that the Lord of all the earth would care to know my name? I am chosen not because of who I am, but because of what He has done, not because of what I have done, but because of who He is!
- God’s invitation to the wedding feast of His son is given to all. God doesn’t desire any to miss out on the party. But only those who choose faith in Him will get to enjoy it. I am so glad for for who I am and what He has done. I long for those who witness my life to know Him to. I want to show it through my life, and witness to it through my words.
