Reading: Psalm 121
Key Verse: Psalm 121:2 — “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!”
Personal Reflection
Early this morning, I got up to see a coworker off to the airport. As he carried his bags to the taxi, one of our dogs bolted out the gate—the more aggressive one. He’s playful with those he knows, but to strangers he looks mean, barking loudly as if he might bite. I was nervous he would hurt someone. I called to him, tried to approach him, but he only ran further away. Finally, I gave up and went back inside and prayed.
It felt like just one more stress added to an already heavy load. I’m supposed to be training someone new, but I don’t know the system well myself. A family who is due to arrive in 2 weeks, wrote again this morning, anxious about their paperwork. In the 2 months I have done this job, we have had very little progress on anything. Why? Are we doing something wrong? My mind is filled with worries, anxiety, pressure—and now the dog.
But as I prayed, I looked out and saw the dumb dog at the gate wagging his tail, waiting to be let back in. In that moment, God reminded me: “I’ve got this.”
Scripture Insight
Psalm 121 begins with a question: “I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there?” The answer is clear: “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”
It’s easy to trust God with small things—like a dog returning safely. But what about bigger things? Families waiting for paperwork, thousands of dollars in plane tickets at stake, ministry plans delayed, potential discouragement from those waiting? The psalmist reminds us that the One who made heaven and earth is able.
- “Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. (Psalm 121:4)
- “The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” (Psalm 121:7–8)
God wasn’t taking a nap when all this has been happening! He is watching over every detail—the comings and goings here in PNG, the families waiting, the ministry needs, and even the unexpected stresses. His care is constant, His promises secure.
Application
- When stress piles up, pause and pray—remember that God has this.
- Trust Him not only in small daily concerns but also in the larger, weightier matters.
- Rest in His promise: He watches over your life, this didn’t catch Him by surprise. He’s got this…. all of it, now and forever.
- Choose the “peace that is beyond understanding” by remembering His past faithfulness and believing His work today is for your good and His glory, and He will continue to do the same in the future.
Prayer
Lord, I confess my worries and anxieties. I feel the pressure of deadlines, responsibilities, and unexpected stresses. Yet Your Word reminds me that my help comes from You—the Maker of heaven and earth. Keep me from harm, watch over my life, and give me peace. Help me to trust that You are doing what is best for me, for others, and for Your work here in PNG. Amen.
