Loving Others Proves I Belong to God

Devotional Thoughts

1 John 3:14 if we love one another, it proves that we have passed from death into life.

Only people controlled by the spirit live with love for someone else over self!

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another…

Walking in the Spirit, produces fellowship, not only with God, but with our brothers!

1 John 3:7-8 When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, 

When we choose to live unselfishly, loving one another, as God has commanded us, it shows we are righteous and that the Holy Spirit is living in us! (1 John 3:9 …those who have been born into God’s family do not make a habit of sinning, because God’s life is in them.) Because, without the Holy Spirit, we would be living for ourselves.

1 John 3:14 If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves we have passed from death to life.

1 John 3:18 Dear brothers, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth.

So, what does it show when we live in conflict with our brother? Somehow we lose sight of these truths when we live in conflict. For certain we are no longer living walking in the Spirit, living controlled by the Spirit! We are living according to self. and according to 1 John 3:8 we actually belong to the devil at that moment! Isn’t that a sobering thought!

Godly living is God Himself living through us. Godless living is living without God! From this passage we learn that Godly living is loving each other, and godless living is living in conflict and “hating” each other by our actions.

1 John 3:18 Dear brothers, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth.

Declarations

  • Godly living is living with love for my brothers. That is evidence of God Himself living through me.
  • When I live in conflict, it shows that God is not in control of my heart, and to continue is being the servant of the devil (1 John 3:8)
  • When I choose to not live for myself, but instead to prefer my brother and show love by my actions, it shows I have moved from being dead to Christ, to being alive in Him. (1 John 3:14)
  • 1 John 3:9 …those who have been born into God’s family do not make a habit of sinning, because God’s life is in them.
