Prayer Devotional
What is the most impossible thing you can imagine for God to do? Do you believe our God is the God of the impossible? Oswald Chambers said (29 February) We do not ask for what we want because we think it is ridiculous to ask God for what is impossible. In fact, we may even feel it is a disturbance to God. How often did God tell us He is the God of the impossible? Here’s just a few from my morning prayer outline:
- Jeremiah 32:17: O sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and the earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is impossible for you.
- Matthew 1:36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.
- Matthew 19:26: Jesus looked at them and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God all things are possible.”
- Psalm 147:5: How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!
- Genesis 18:14: Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return about this time next year and Sarah will have a son.”
- I Corinthians 1:25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
What do I believe is too ridiculous, or impossible for God to do? Healing of a marriage? Healing of a sickness? Providing financial support? Reconciling a relationship? Giving unity on a team? Providing needed personnel? Is anything too hard for God?
Proverbs 30:5 says, “EVERY word of God proves TRUE!” Do you believe that? Do I believe that?
My prayer for you today:
Lord Jesus, you told Aaron and his sons to bless your people by speaking these words (Numbers 6:24-27):
- May the Lord bless you and protect you.
- May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.
- May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.
Then you promised that if they prayed that blessing over your people that you yourself would honour those words and bless them too! (Numbers 6:28) “EVERY word of God proves TRUE.” (Prov 30:5)
Lord, like the father in Mark 9:14-28 who asked Jesus, “IF you can, have compassion on us and help us.” When Jesus replied, “All things are possible to the one who believes (Mark 9:23), his reply is my prayer too. “I believe, help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24) I pray for your faith that God will give you assurance of His incredible power today. That you will know God’s love, a love that didn’t even spare his own son, but gave him up for us. Will He not freely give us everything else we need? (Rom 8:32). May you believe that God knows what is the very best for you (Rom 11:33), that He loves you deeply, and He has the power to do the impossible for you and in you today! (Jer 32:17)
Finally, I pray that this understanding of God’s knowledge, love and power will produce a devotion that trumps everything else in your lives. As Luke 16:13 reminds us, “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.” May you become fully devoted to God above all else because of all He has done for you.
