Dear Brothers and Sisters,
These past two weeks have been overwhelming. With our gov rep’s departure, I’ve had to learn his role, train others, and manage the facility in Port Moresby—all while continuing my director responsibilities. I thank God for 2 PNGian employees, who have taken on much of the work, yet as I left POM I lay awake worrying: Did I miss something? Will they manage? What happens when one of them has to leave? The waves of anxiety were crashing in.
Reading: Psalm 93
Key Verse: Psalm 93:4 — “Mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore—the LORD above is mightier than these!”
Scripture Insight:
The resilience practice for this week is Broaden and Build. Negative emotions narrow our thinking, but positive emotions broaden our perspective and help us build resilience. As I lay awake, filled with “what ifs,” God used the words of Psalm 93 to broaden my perspective.
In Psalm 93 David broadens his perspective and builds his resilience,
- “The LORD is king… armed with strength” (v.1). Even when my world feels shaky, His throne is secure.
- “Your throne has stood from time eternal” (v.2). Nothing has ever conquered Him.
- “The floods have risen up” (v.3). God sometimes allows the waters to rise, but He uses them to teach us trust.
- While floods do rise and waves do pound, the Lord still reigns. “The LORD above is mightier than these” (v.4). He walks on the waves and invites us to rest in His power.
As I took time to STOP, and pray, I breathed in, “God, You are my refuge and strength” and breathed out “You are mightier than these waves,” I found rest.
Application:
- When anxiety rises, broaden your perspective by remembering God’s faithfulness.
- Replace “what ifs” with “God is.”
- Practice breathing prayer: inhale His strength, exhale His sovereignty.
- Broaden your view and rest in the truth that He is above the waves.
Prayer:
Lord, when the waves crash and I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are mightier than these. Lift my eyes beyond the circumstances, broaden my perspective, and teach me to rest in Your strength.
Reflection Questions:
- What waves are crashing over you right now?
- How can you broaden your perspective to see God’s faithfulness?
- What simple prayer can you breathe in and out today to rest in Him?
