Held in His Hands

December 7, 2025 by David and Robin Watters

Reading: Psalm 95:1–7

Key Verse: Psalm 95:7 — “For he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care.”

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Stress has a way of narrowing our focus. When storms rise, we often can’t see how God will work things out. I felt that last Sunday, stuck in a rut with the rain pouring down, wondering, “How am I going to get out of this one?” But I also felt that sitting in the office, unable to formulate my thoughts to write an email, because of the pressure I felt from so many things pulling at me. In moments like that, our thoughts flood with worry. Yet Scripture calls us to step back, broaden our perspective, and remember: God holds everything in His hands (Psalm 95:4–5), and He watches over us (Psalm 95:7).

Scripture Insight:

Psalm 95 reminds us of God’s greatness and care:

  • He is “the Rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1).
  • “He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains” (Psalm 95:4).
  • “The sea belongs to him, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land” (Psalm 95:5).
  • “Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care” (Psalm 95:6–7).

When our focus narrows to the rut we’re stuck in, worship lifts our eyes to the One who reigns over all creation. He is not only mighty, but also near—our Shepherd who watches over us (Psalm 95:7).

Application:

  • When stress narrows your vision, choose worship to broaden your perspective (Psalm 95:1–2).
  • Remember: the God who formed the mountains and seas (Psalm 95:4–5) also cares for you (Psalm 95:7).
  • Rest in His hands, knowing He holds both the world and your circumstances.

Prayer:

Lord, when storms rise and I feel stuck, remind me that You hold all things in Your hands (Psalm 95:4–5). Lift my eyes from the rut to Your greatness, and let me rest in Your care (Psalm 95:7).

Reflection Questions:

  • Where has stress narrowed your focus lately?
  • How can worship (Psalm 95:1–2) help you broaden your perspective?
  • What does it mean to you that you are part of “the flock under His care” (Psalm 95:7)?
