Prayers God Will Answer

December 11, 2022 by David and Robin Watters

Bible Reading

  • 2 Chronicles 6
  • 1 John 5

Devotional Thoughts

Solomon’s prayer of dedication to the Temple was petitioning for God to keep his promise.. petitioning for God to listen and grant requests, in order that all the people of the earth will come to know and fear God, even foreigners who come will know that this Temple was built to honor God’s name. (2 Chron 6:33)

1 John 5:14-15 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask anything that pleases him (according to his will ESV). And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

So, what is God’s will? Solomon prayed for God to keep his promise. I’d say that would be God’s will eh? What else? That the nations would know him. That’s also part of what Solomon prayed.

Here’s a few more things we can pray for with confidence:

That we may “perfect” and display God’s Love (1 John 4:12):

1 John 5:2 that everyone who loves the Father, would love his children too

1 John 5:3 that we would keep his commands

1 John 5:2 When we love God’s children, we are carrying out his commands, which shows that we love God! (NIV)

That we may overcome the world and defeat evil:

1 John 5:4 This is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith (ESV)

1 John 5:4 every child of God defeats this evil world. We achieve this victory through our faith (NLT)

That we may grow in faith. What defines “faith?”

1 John 5:5-13 Those who believe Jesus is the Son of God, who came by the Spirit, water and the blood. God gave us eternal life through Him. That eternal life is in his son. Whoever has the son, has life! I write these things so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Declarations

  • When I pray things that God has already declared that he will do, I can pray with confidence that God will answer positively!
  • Obeying God’s commands is loving His kids. When we love God’s kids, we can live with confidence that God approves of what we are doing.
  • Faith is the confidence that God is going to keep his promise and do what he said. Faith is what enables me to overcome evil and defeat worldly desires and passions.
