More Travels

September 25, 2017 by DJ and Jennifer Searcy

You probably remember that we wound up traveling quite a bit during the first half of this year (an April trip to another island to help give evaluations for Jennifer, a May/June trip to the States to attend meetings and see family for Jennifer, and a July trip to Australia for skin cancer removal for DJ.)  Well, we were kind of expecting to stay in one place for the rest of the year after that, but now it looks like the Lord might have other plans for us.  DJ is tentatively planning a trip in mid-October to help his sister Rachel with some repair and maintenance projects at her house in the village where we used to live (on a different island from where we are now.)  Specifically, he wants to work on her solar power/battery system and her 2-way radio antenna.  Please pray for the plans to come together for this to happen at the right time if it’s the Lord’s will.

In addition to that, I (Jennifer) have been asked to consider going back to our former island in November to help a fellow consultant with giving stage 2 evaluations to the same couple whose stage 1 evaluations I helped with back in April.  This is in a neighboring language group to the Hobongan, whom our family used to serve with.  Please pray that we as a family will have wisdom about whether or not I should make this trip, since I also need to go to that same island AGAIN in January for field-wide consultant meetings.  The kids will be in school during all of these proposed trips, which means it will need to be either DJ or I traveling alone each time so that one parent can stay here and keep the family routine going.  So we’d appreciate your prayers for all of us during these times that we are apart.

Thanks for praying for our kids too.  Tyndale is having a really good school year so far, probably his best yet.  We are very encouraged by that.  Pray that he and I can find the time we need to give a little extra attention to his writing, since that’s still the most challenging area for him.  The girls are continuing to adjust to the added responsibility and work load of middle school.  We’re thankful that their IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is in place for this year.  Please keep praying for them that they’ll be able to get into a good, manageable routine and that their stress/anxiety levels will decrease.

The two families in language and culture study here are continuing to make progress.  In a couple weeks I’ll be giving them their intro into the third section of their stage 3 studies.  I observed language sessions for them this past week and was encouraged to see their progress.

Thanks so much for your prayers and support.  God bless you all.
