August 2012 Update
The emergency call came in on Monday from a little, Chimane community, but too late in the day to do anything. Besides, the plane was just getting the final touches from the top overhaul on the engine. It needed to go through the flight tests to make sure everything was running well before it could be used for flights. So Dwight got in contact with another organization to see if he could use their plane to do the flight. No, none of their planes were available either.
A mother had been in labor for two days, and the report was that the baby was coming feet first. The only thing that could be done, was to go ahead and do the needed test flights first thing in the morning and then go and get the lady. That night, every time I woke up, I prayed for the lady and the baby. I just could not bare the thought of her having to go through another night of labor. By the time Dwight was able to get off on the flight and bring her in, she had been in labor for almost 3 days!
As soon as the plane arrived back to Cochabamba, she was taken to the hospital where they did a caesarian, delivering a baby girl. We thank the Lord the mother is fine, but the baby needed surgery…as the father in his limited understanding put it “to put a valve in for the brain”. Later we found out that the baby was not breathing on her own either, and needed to be on oxygen. Today (Sept 3) the report was that the baby is being weaned off the oxygen and seems to be getting a bit better.
The couple (as the father had come out also) needed clothes as they only had brought out a little gym bag, for the both of them. Our church here in town was able to provide them with some clothes, and we added some fresh fruit, and a bit of money to help buy their meals from the hospital.
Pray: for Freddy and his wife and their little baby girl (that the baby will be normal and healthy)

Cultural moment: I had to see a doctor just recently and the receptionist was a bit confused. I had checked in as “Diana Brown”. They had in their records, from a previous visit “Diana Brennan” which they had gotten off my ID card. The receptionist quite impatiently asked me…what my last name was? I said “Brown”. No, but what is your last name?? I am sure I had this blank look on my face as I replied “Diana de Brown” because I am married. She insisted: No, but what was your mother’s last name? I said “Brennan”. She looked at me with a look of….and so duuuh!? She could see that I really wasn’t “getting it”, so she promptly told me to always check in as Diana Brennan! I quickly agreed to do so, just to get away from the embarrassing moment. Good grief! Had I missed something somewhere?! Then I remembered the little competition list from church. I was keeping track of points for each lady, according to their attendance, memory verse, etc. When I was recording their names, I couldn’t figure out why some of the ladies had put down a different last name than what I knew them by. I thought…that is strange…is it their maiden name? Now I knew!! It was their maiden name! Ok, so I am still learning after being here for 5 years!

PRAYER REQUESTS: Can you please pray for Dwight’s license renewal in Sept.? Pray that we won’t have to pay the “healthy” amount they keep charging us for a “reciprocal” license, and just go ahead and give him his indefinite license. He has gone through the whole process they keep asking for each time, but for some reason they have not given him what they keep promising….the indefinite license! Also pray that they won’t take a couple of months in the process!
Please continue to pray for Mamita’s and Doris’ salvation.
Pray for health, wisdom and strength for Dwight and I.
