Is it wrong to pray for an excavator?

July 14, 2019 by Ernest and Tina Jones

We have been working on getting the site for the new OFFGRID TECH building ready for a while.

Lot cleared of trees

With the site prepped we started to excavating for the new building.

Lot excavation

First to go in is the earth tube.  This will help keep our building warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We did hit a lot of rock while digging the trench for it. So the hammer had to be put on the excavator we could get to the depth we needed as well has hand tools.

Digging the earth tube

With the earth tube in we were set to start getting the footers done.

Footers came and went but not without hitting rock so back out comes the excavator to help.

Footings

Fast forward a bit and we have put in all the plumbing but again rock. We are really thankful for a piece of equipment that allows us to not only rip up or hammer up the rock but also dig it out after.

Plumbing and wiring conduit going in

Now the vaper barrier and rebar are all in place for the new floor.  Yet we ran into a little problem.

Prepping for cement

While braking up some rock that is in the path for the cement trucks, the faithful excavator blew a large hydraulic line. This normally would not be a large issue but the line that blew was a drive line, so the excavator is now stranded in the middle of the path for the cement trucks and can’t move.  This all happened late Thursday night, and with only a couple of days to get parts and get it repaired and out of the way, people started praying.  So why pray for an excavator, well it has been a great tool to help us save money on excavation of the building but also right now in its present state it is going to hold up several concrete companies and will set our work behind a large amount.  When we started to take it apart to do the repair, we ran into bad bolts, striped bolts and also bolts that did not want to come out.  Some we were able to get out by a special tool some a big hammer and some we had to cut off with a torch.

Repair of the broken line

People were praying that we could get it done in time and God answered on Saturday.  We were able to get all the rusted in bolts out and find the parts needed. Early Saturday evening the new hoses were in and we were ready to go.  Not only were we ready to move the excavator but we were also able to break up the rocks we started on a few days ago.  The road for the cement trucks is now open!  We start poring the floor Monday July 15 at 3AM.

By 6AM or so this first section of the floor should be all poured.

The black lines are our in floor heating

Thanks for praying that we get the excavator running so we could move it out of the way and finish the road.  Prayer keeps us and the equipment going, so please keep praying as we still have a long way to go to finish the building.  Pray also that all the equipment stay running so we can use it to do the work we need to do.

All moved and ready for more work
