The white chicken gets it

June 22, 2011 by Nadia Hattingh

This type of ceremony represents one of the getting-rid-of one of the biggest evil spirits in the Mwinika world. They believe that a spirit called-“shetani” (that is white and comes from the sea) has caused a sickness and he and his other evil spirits must be chased away. The witchdoctor or sick person has a revelation (usually through a dream) and then this ceremony (coming in three parts) must be performed if the person wants to live. During a all-night 3 day ceremony the sickness is transferred to a white chicken (seen on the left on the picture) and the evil spirits chased away.

This picture was taken last week during such a ceremony. This costs thousands of the Mwinika’s hard earned money and the result… Deeper involvement in the spirit world that binds and blinds the them.

Please pray that the Mwinika will find the true Healer soon…
