We hope your Christmas was as relaxing, fun, and enjoyable as ours was. We loved being home together and enjoyed using Christmas decorations that we hadn’t used in 4 years. We had a quiet Christmas; listening to Christmas music, putting together puzzles, drinking hot chocolate and watching the snow fall and fall and fall.
Greg made it back home from Indonesia on December 18th. He had a profitable time there and was able to collect some more materials so that he can continue to work on translating the Bible from here. We are very happy to have him back home with us. Three of his fingers on his right hand went numb on the flight to Indonesia and are still numb now. He also had a nasty rash under his arm. He went to the doctor when he got home and was diagnosed with shingles. The medicine he was prescribed took care of the rash but he is still experiencing numbness in his fingers, so please be praying for him.
The day after we sent out our last update Caleb’s doctor called us to let us know that some tests results came back. He is not absorbing a substantial about of fat as it passes through his body. So he is having several different tests done to determine what is causing this. The first, and scariest was for cystic fibrosis and we are praising God for negative results to that test. He did test positive for the amoeba c-dif, which is caused by large doses of antibiotics (which he had in the hospital after he was born). He is being treated for this but the Dr. thinks this is not the only thing keeping his body from absorbing fat. On January 3rd he will undergo two tests, an echocardiogram and an upper and lower GI swallow drill. (He will swallow dye and they will track it through his body to make sure he doesn’t have any scar tissue or blockages in his intestines.) Please pray especially hard for him the night and morning of the 2nd and 3rd as he is not allowed to nurse or eat any thing from midnight until after his test. It is going to be hard to not feed him when he is crying because he is hungry. If these two tests don’t produce any answers our Dr. would like us to travel to Denver to see a pediatric gastroenterologist. His next available appointment was January 30th, so if we don’t have any answers by then Caleb and I will fly down at that time. Thank you so much for your continued prayers for Caleb and the rest of the family.
P.S. We just heard this morning that Pam’s 16 year old niece, Margaret, was shot in the eye last night. We think she will survive but will have to undergo brain surgery to remove the bullet that us lodged behind her eye. We don’t have many of the details right now but if you could please add Margaret and Pam’s brother Rick and the rest of Pam’s family to your prayers right now it would be so appreciated.
