“Remember Me”
Knowing what was going to take place I eased behind the preaching podium with my trusty little canon 77D and captured the old beat up pans that lay in the dirt, waiting to be used in the communion service. At first look I was taken by surprise, could these beat up instruments be used to glorify God as we remembered what His Son had done for us?
When two men began to pass out the communion loaf and the little classes dirty as they were, I realized for the first time, it is not about the formality nor the instruments; the communion we share together is remembering Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
I have shared communion in churches from northern Canada to southern Tasmania Australia but that day, in the run-down little church along the banks of the river with the badly beat up pans, stands out as the best communion service ever. What rewards could be greater to a missionary than seeing them loving Jesus after all these years. Jesus said, “When you do this, remember Me.”
