First Day of School

October 2, 2011 by Joel and Andi

Tomorrow marks the beginning of our intense language study.  We are excited and nervous all wrapped in one.  We are excited because we know that the only way to start becoming more of life here is to be able to communicate with people around and start building relationships.  We are nervous just about keeping up with the demanding schedule ahead while we continue to adapt to life here.  This will put life into full swing which will be a lot to handle, but God has helped us get this far and I know that he will continue to walk with us.

Ways you can be Praying

– Pray for us as we begin our language study, that we will not get discouraged at the beginning and that we will notice the small successes.

– Pray for Tori as her official nannying begins

– Next week we will be looking at a possible school for Ethan.  Pray for wisdom as we decided when would be the best time to enroll him in school and what school option would be the best.

I know you’ve heard this before but I’ll write it to you the day before you begin…you are different people. You learn languages differently. Joel has a humongo head start on languages so his “first day” and other people’s first day won’t be the same. If this turns into competition or hierarchy between the two of you – you are dead in the water. Leave the competition and the bragging rights to card games and Settlers of Cattan. Be yourself. Laugh a lot. Breathe deeply and exhale before trying to repeat something for the first time. Cry shamelessly when you feel over the edge. Always cheer each other on and you’ll do fine.

    Hi Andi and Joel,
We are thinking and praying for you. We are enjoying following your everyday life in Africa. What a challenge. It will be fun to see how you pick up the language. I have no doubt the boys will open many doors and the language will not be too much of a barrier when children are involved. Praying….
