A Double Birthday

January 15, 2012 by Joel and Andi

Ethan Turns 5

Everyone had a party hat...even all his puppies

Ethan has been my superstar.  I was the most worried about him with the move to Africa and although it has been difficult he is doing amazingly well.  I know God’s hand has been with him in this time of transition.  He really misses our family, friends and churches back home.  Yet he is willing to see the good that is here and is diving into the language.  Here is a little bit about him from his own words.

How does it feel to be 5?  I can’t tell yet if I feel 5 or still 4

What are you going to do now that you are 5? Lose my first tooth

What are you excited about this year?  Learning French and beating more levels on Mario

What is your favorite French word?  The French “R”  (followed by a demonstration)

What do you like about Africa? My school

What do you like to eat?  Salad and French Fries

How would you describe Africa?  It is hot and never rains

What do you miss from Portland?  Cinnamon toast crunch, Jared and Isaac

What would a Birthday be without CAKE
The new rocket stole the party
Daddy and Ethan setting up for launch

Tori Turns 19

Having Tori here for our first months in Africa has been an extreme blessing.  She had taken advantage of her time here and has experienced a lot of the life and culture of Africa.   It is crazy when I think that her time here is almost done.  God sure did know what he was doing when he sent her our way.  I tried to interview her as well, but she mainly just copied Ethan’s answers, so I will leave it up to you to find out more about her.

All done up for her recent wedding appearance
In the dance down the aisle she didn't miss a step...Way to go Tori!

I think my third son, Nathan, had this same party when he was little! A birthday cake baked in some lovely Polish pottery. Festivities that include his stuffed dog – a red one named Pal. Great gifts that steal the show. Family that loves him to pieces. That sounds like a great birthday party! Happy birthday, Ethan!

Praying for you all this morning. It was exciting to formally approve support for you guys at our annual meeting Sunday night. Don’t know if you had heard yet, but everyone said ‘aye.’ I wasn’t feeling particularly piratey so I just said ‘yes.’ Blessings on your week. Pastor Toby
