We are finally at the point in our language study that we can go on outings with our language helper. Our first outing was to Goree Island, which is one of the largest tourist attractions here in Dakar. The island is accessible only by boat and is inhabited by about 1000 people now. It historically served as a trading outpost, which includes the slave trade. We walked around the island to hear and see its history, a history that has great impact on the people of Senegal today. I will be honest that one of the highlights for me was just to be a tourist for the day, which meant I was able to have some freedoms that I haven’t had in a long time. For those who enjoy scenic pictures…here is some of what we saw that day.

Wow, what a neat experience. It is nice sometimes to have the opportunity to just embrace being a tourist. And it’s always valuable to understand a people’s history. So glad you got to go.
Hurray for small blessings. Just to be a tourist never thought that would be such a joy. WOW what a great day of relaxing and beauty.
