An Overwhelming Need

June 13, 2012 by Joel and Andi

The other day, as I was coming inside with the boys, a girl walked up and asked for a glass of water.  I told her to hold on and went inside to get water for her.  This is not anything new, it is pretty normal to get asked for water, food and/or money pretty much anytime we step out of our house.  However this time when I came back with water there were 5 more kids all wanting a glass of water.  I went in to get more and came back and there were probably close to 20 kids.  All gathered around just for a glass of water.  This is a picture of the overwhelming needs that we look at daily.

At times it is a struggle…

  • To display the type of love we are called to
  • To not get paralyzed by the quantity of  needs around us
  • To not become numb to the need and start ignoring it
  • To have wisdom in best ways to assist and help
  • To not grow weary of giving

This is a struggle I know we will face most of our life.  There is no easy answer and I know there is no complete solution on this Earth.  It is one of those areas of my life that I lift up to God and pray that somehow he will strengthen and guide us through these struggles that are beyond our comprehension or understanding.

God give us the strength to help carry the load

What you see and how you give reminds us of how we need to see and give. The LORD is using your life and perspective to teach me as well.

    Thank you.

May the Lord give you an unlimited supply of water–both drinking and living water so that in His name you may fill the needs of the people to whom He has sent you to minister. Praise God that He gave you the water to give.

    Hugs and prayers,

    Jeannette

God grant you not only an abundance of drinking water, but springs of living water!

Give a child a glass of water in my name and you have given it to me, says our Savior Jesus. So glad you gave Jesus 20 glasses of water and continue to do so….You don’t have to solve the bigger problem – just hand out another glass in Jesus’ name, lifting them up in your prayers, loving those who are standing outside your window. Will pray for physical and emotional strength as you do this. So proud of you! This is the hard, daily, not-talked-about work of being a missionary. You’re doing it just right. Well done

Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
    Everything that I keep missing
Give me Your love for humanity

Give me Your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me Your heart for the one’s forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see

I love this song by Brandon Heath it is my prayer for me as well as my family.
When we we see with Gods eyes what he sees we also need his heart and strength and wisdom to respond to the overwhelming need and to be able to display Jesus in our response. This is not easy and yes will be a difficult task but I so praise God when he lets us see what he sees and then gives us his heart. It is so right !
    Matthew 25
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Dear Daughter keep giving water to the thirsty

Wow. That is both overwhelming and presents such an opportunity! I pray that He would guide you in how to use the time you have with these precious children that are in need of such basics. Maybe you get tell them a Bible story while sharing water 🙂

I know that is always so difficult. I am praying that the Lord will grant you the wisdom that he promises to those who ask.
