It was supposed to be a normal week, but then…
- SUNDAY: A trip to the hospital, but thankfully nothing was broken this time.
- TUESDAY: Cecil’s brother dies and we stay up late with their girls as preparations are made.
- WEDNESDAY: Wake up early to walk beside our host family through the preparations, funeral and burial. Weeping…so many new experiences…uncertainty…..weariness.
- LATE LAST NIGHT: Wake up to try and bring down Ethan’s 104 degree temp. I guess 3 healthy days is all we get.
- TODAY: Joel is off on an unexpected trip to Dakar and then out to the village for another funeral. Ethan says good bye to yet another friend who is leaving Africa…more tears.
All this added together = complete and total EXHAUSTION
Truth I cling to: In our weaknesses He is strong!
Andrea Pitcher says
No judgements this week. You aren’t a good or a bad missionary. You aren’t a good or a bad Mom. You aren’t doing a good job or a terrible job taking care of details….you are exhausted. That’s all. Sleep when you can. Get kids healthy. Work out some perk to help get through the time without Joel. Don’t fall into any emotional pit of judgement. Exhausted is a great word.
I cover you with grace and permission to sleep and eat some good food. I cover you with grace to miss a language lesson or anything else you need to make it through this week. Grace covers all of this pain and grief and exhaustion.
Let grace cover you this week.

Thank you for being Jesus’ hands and hearts for us, here, in the USA!
“In a little while” we will be with Him in glory! He will wipe away every tear.
