Our Three Days of Christmas

December 27, 2012 by Joel and Andi

Christmas Eve – We dressed up and made visits to all our neighbors (new and old).  After that we went to a program at our church that lasted from 8 to almost midnight.  We also had a potluck with our church family and visitors from the neighborhood.

Katie, Joel and I all had outfits made for Christmas
Joel wasn't too excited about the stiff material, but everyone else here was excited to see it
I get so excited to see people worshiping God. I hope I never lose the excitement of that

Christmas – It was a day at home with our family.  It was wonderful to just enjoy being together.

Tyler unfortunately wasn't feeling well
But a new soccer ball helps to chase the sickness away
The day was filled with good food
Time together
New Books
Team building projects, surely 4 McMartins can set up a new toy
New discoveries (how to use a walkie talkie)
Dirty Feet ( just a reality of life here)
Lots of smiles
and Lots of love

Christmas Out in The Villlage – The day after Christmas we headed out to the village to celebrate Christmas with our host family in the village.  It was so special to bring our two families together.

Ethan taught the kids to play Trouble
Tyler ate willingly out of the kids bowl for the first time
I am getting closer to figuring out the art of tea making (the higher you pour, the more foamy it gets)
There were great memories all around us

My Reflections this Christmas

This year I have appreciate the meaning of Christmas more than ever.  As Joel and I have been walking through God’s Story with Ethan it has reminded us again what a long awaited gift Jesus was.  As we have lived in Africa, we understand even more what it means that God came down to us.  As we live far away from family, we cherish every moment we have with them near.  This Christmas we celebrated together the long await birth of Jesus, who came to us, so that he could bring us home to be with God.  What a wonderful gift!

Thank you God for sending your Son the best gift of all

Thank you for the photos and stories. I was smiling the whole time. I have been thanking God with you for the time you have had with family – the joy of being with those you love and sharing your life with them is priceless. God is doing many wonderful things in and through you…and we are only aware of some of them! Praise God for this precious time and the new awareness of His gift to us!

Thanks for sharing all the pictures, Andi! By the way, your dress looks lovely and I love Joel’s shoes. Are they comfortable at all? I’m also impressed, you were pouring the tea pretty high, and from a cup! Way to go! I’m so glad you guys had a great Christmas and that you were able to appreciate God’s presence with us in a deeper way. I love you all!
