Looking back at 2019

January 20, 2020 by Joel and Andi

2019 started with a bang as we welcomed 7 new missonaries to our field. It was the largest group we had ever recieved at once. Not long after 2 of our coworkers needed to return to their home country to help with sick or aging parent. This left us with a huge load on our plates. It left me as the only language consultant on our field overseaing 27 different language learners scattered over 5 different countries. It left Joel carrying a lot of the logistics for our leadership team. We were unsure how we would do it all while we cared for and welcomed a group of new missionaries. We entered the year with fear and trembling, but we also knew that God was there with us.

When I look back at the year all I can see is God’s faithfulness to our family. I am still not sure how we made it all the time, but yet we didn’t break or even feel close to that point. The math doesn’t add up, it shouldn’t have been possible, but yet some how it all came together. So as we walk out of this year we are praising God for his goodness. We are hanging on to the reminder of how he is able to help use accomplish more than we expect.

Here is a snapshot of our year in pictures…

  • We welcomed lots of new missionaries to our field
  • We began a new junior high group at our church
  • New Language Sessions began
  • We hosted 2 workshopa for new missionaries
  • We witnessed the celebration of the completion of a new New Testiment
  • Our year included a lot of travel to encourage many different teams
  • I sat in on sessions
  • Joel met with village leaders
  • We got stuck once
  • and traveled on newly built bridges
  • Our church here celebrated all the different cultures of their members
  • We hosted our annual kids camp
  • We enjoyed a visit from my parent
  • They boys started a new school
  • They have grown up so much this year
  • and we ended out year with a bang
  • This year was very full in many ways
  • God was so faithful no matter how large the load
  • We praise the Lord for all he is at work doing
  • We look forward to all that is ahead this year as we continue the work he has for us

Hi Andi, thank you for your post. I’m with my Mom and was able to show her the photos and read the blog to her. So nice to get the overview. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
