Why Did I Leave My Family For 10 Days?

November 26, 2014 by Joel Potter

Missionaries from seven different countries working on the SAME task: Reaching the Unreached.

We’ve found God to be the faithful father that His Word portrays him to be all through our lives. And this past ten days He’s again proved that and gone above and beyond on my family’s behalf and on behalf of His Church, the Body of Christ as that church – ALL AROUND THE WORLD – is working to make His salvation known to those who have been outside the reach of gospel.

Less than a month ago I was given the chance to have my understanding of how big a job that is. NTM USA is a big team of people but we’re working on an job that’s bigger than we can do and that’s why believers from many other nations are working with us. But because of the smaller size of these international partners, they’re often limited in what they could in the area of communications which is an essential part of their efforts to raise up more missionaries.

So, my team has the distinct privilege of sharing much of our toolset with these partners and the leader of my team, our Director of Communications, took me to Italy in order that I could get to know the folks in leadership of these partner nations and be an encouragement to them.

I learned so much about how my teammates from Norway, Italy, the UK, Germany, Holland and Faroe Islands are working with churches in their countries to mobilize teammates who will go to the hard places with challenging languages and work to translate God’s Word and establish Churches that will continue to reach beyond their local borders.

The countries these hard working men and women serve in are some of the toughest places to mobilize believers willing to commit to an even tougher ministry. Post – Christian Europe is often hostile towards this work but these families press on – because God calls them to!

So I’m coming home with new friends and teammates and much work to be done by my team to strengthen my NTM Europe co-workers! And along the way, God gave me the sweet gift of the chance to see the homeland of my 100% Italian Grandmother whose family was from the town of Ceccano just outside Rome. And yes, Italy is all I’ve been dreaming it would be!

So, thank you for praying much for me and for my family. Bethany and I talked almost everyday and she raved about how smooth the time passed at home! Thank You Lord for that sweet blessing too.

For now Arrivederci and Grazie!
