Pray for the Home Team!

June 22, 2022 by Joel Potter

In November of this year, the group of Global Partner organizations that Ethnos360 is a part of is hosting an international forum in Chiang Mai, a decent-sized city in the country of Thailand. There will be “co-workers” of ours from all over the world and they’ll gather to encourage each other in the work we’re all banding together to accomplish, to update all of us as partners with new tools and methodology, and add to existing relationships and create new friendships.

Our team Leadership has asked Bethany and me to travel to the forum to be a part of all of the above, but also to serve. What we’ve been a part of the last two years in online and hybrid training is an area of huge interest to many of our Global Partners and we’ll have a chance to share what we’ve learned.

Get this; the finances are already taken care of and covered because of what we’re being asked to do while we are there.

So that brings up the real need right now: we need a Home Team! Our kids can’t join us and Lynn is not in the condition to travel. This means we need a team of people who can help to keep life on the rails here at home. We’ve already arranged rides for the kids to and from school and do the running around and such, but the vital people who would stay with the kids and Lynn and make sure that everyone is safe and sound and cared for is what we don’t yet have. We had a few initial possibilities that we have determined won’t work out.

We’re trusting that Father who has already provided the finances to go, will make clear if this trip is on our path. We want to ask you to pray with us for the Lord to either:

  1. Provide the right people to stay in our house and hold down the fort and love on our family, so that we can go.
  2. Or to gently let us know that this trip is not in our future at this time.

We also need to confirm if we are a go,  soon. A trip this big will need to have airline tickets and other arrangements confirmed early. And it’s going to take a lot of planning once it’s a go. This means that we have just a few weeks for the answer to our prayers to be revealed.

After two decades of living together in a life bui After two decades of living together in a life built on something we believe will last, I’m grateful for who you are to me, today, Bethany.

I could post pictures of our wedding day or talk about how much simpler things were then, but what I’m grateful for is what’s right now. We’ve been blessed to be built up into something that has permanence even while we increasingly see agonizing splits between relationships around us or near us.

Some days I wish for us in our early days, living that simple life fueled by youth and passion, but we were meant for more than just twenty years of that.

So, on our 20th anniversary, my choice of a moment to remember is one of my favorite pictures of us, taken while we were in Thailand, so tired from working and with stress on many fronts whispering in our ears. This is life right now and yet in the middle of it, our awesome God who brings beauty in the middle of ashes, brings you and me the chance to see beauty in each other every day.

I love you.
