This year’s flexibility award must surely go to Brian and Brooke Johnson. For a couple of months, Heidi and I have been planning on taking the newest batch of NTM missionaries on a trip to Corregidor Island. But, when the day of departure finally came, two of the couples were sick and had to cancel. Heidi and I had some mail to drop off at the Johnson’s house and when we were arrived the kids were all sitting at the kitchen table working hard on their school work. Heidi said, “Why don’t you go to the beach with us? We’re leaving in an hour.” And they did.
That is not the only reason they get the flexibility award… The boat broke down in the middle of the trip and as we were riding the swells, going up and down, up and down, and as the kids were throwing up over the edge of the boat, they were saying. “Isn’t this a great adventure kids?” That is flexibility! Fortunately, before I started helping the kids feed the fish, the boat guys got the engine repaired and we made it to the Island.
We had a great time with the entire group. We enjoyed the fellowship and learning more about the history of the Philippines and WWII. During the trip we read the book, “A Tale of Three Kings”, by Gene Edwards, which discusses a very interesting perspective on leadership.
This week Heidi and I are going to be busy with our Manila work. We are really looking forward to getting back to the village, but are glad we have a chance to take care of some mission responsibilities we have here.
Prayer Points:
Please pray that we will have wisdom as we work on some official paperwork.
Please pray for the language school students. They are all almost finished with their national language course are praying for direction as to where the Lord would have them serve.
Tim and Peggy Langan, from Westwood Baptist, are arriving today to help us with our support center up north. Please pray that God will bless their time here in the Philippines and that they will adjust quickly to the heat and culture differences.
God bless,
Jonathan & Heidi
