With Waukesha in our rear-view mirror, our cross-country journey is picking up steam! Oklahoma, Missouri, Michigan, and Wisconsin lay behind us… and suddenly, we’re down to Iowa, California, and Washington on the road before us. I’m afraid that if we blink, we might miss all the amazing things God has planned next!
Our time in Wisconsin was all too brief, but sweet. We visited Kettle Moraine Community Church, where Amy and I attended during our Bible school years. While visiting favorite locations around town, we got to introduce Elayne and Titus to many who hadn’t seen Elayne since she was four months old! It was our privilege to attend a couple Bible school classes, and meet up with teachers who have had a huge influence on our lives and relationships with the Lord. All in all, this was a neat opportunity for Amy and I to return to the site of our newlywed life together – what a special treat!
Even as we enjoyed revisiting our prior home, our greatest joy came in opportunities to share our heart for those without God’s Word in their native language. Many of our friends, while aware of some details of the ministry God has given us, were excited to hear about the bigger picture: the importance we place on seeing a new church grow to maturity, and how God led us toward Mexico. These conversations were a huge source of encouragement to Amy and I, and we are excited to have similar opportunities in the weeks to come!
While wishing we had another week to meet with more people, we nonetheless found ourselves on the road, headed toward Des Moines. Following I-39 and I-43 southward, we eventually turned west on I-80 and crossed into the State of Iowa. Ahead: good friends Dave and Danielle, who we’ve known since Bible school, and with whom we look forward to reuniting over the days to come. But all too quickly we’ll be back on the road again, this time aimed at Southern California! Friday will begin a three-day drive to Los Angeles, which will be the longest single leg of our four-month journey.
