This morning at 4:45 I sat up in bed to the sound of the truck alarm going off. I almost rolled over and went back to sleep, thinking, “It can’t be our truck…the sound is too far away.” I jumped up to look out my window and reassure myself that, indeed, the truck was safe and sound, but I couldn’t see it. I woke Alkires up and Dan went to check it out, confirming that, indeed someone had stolen the truck. You might recall that last year they had their Jeep stolen in Chihuahua, so part of my brain was thinking, “God, you’ve got to be kidding here.” We have been talking in Bible class about our identity in Christ and read a verse that assures us we are “un-harmable” (I John 5:18). That doesn’t mean, naturally, that nothing happens to us, just that all things in our lives are okayed by a Father who loves us. I reminded myself of that truth as Sarah and I sat bleary-eyed at the table while we waited for Dan and two co-workers to check the streets and report back.
Meanwhile, Dan was running down the street in his slippers and spied the truck surrounded by several young men. They had the hood up and were yanking wires, trying to silence the alarm and get the truck running…praise God a security kill-switch had shut down the truck after only a few blocks. The robbers yelled, “Hey, it’s the American!” and took off. We thank God for his protection of Dan, the safe retrieval of the truck, and for his overall care. We are, indeed, un-harmable and we cling to that this morning and even another morning if it turns out that the truck is gone for good. Sarah stated while we were waiting to hear news, “It is God’s truck. He gave it to us. He can do whatever he wants with it.”
Please pray for our team. There have been two other incidents that affect our safety and we believe that the Enemy is trying to discourage our hearts as we get closer and closer to reaching the Nahuatl. Ask God to keep us and our equipment safe, but mostly pray that we maintain focus, the appropriate attitudes, and unity of purpose. We believe that we have an important task before us and don’t want anything to get in our way!
Thank you for your prayers and for partnering with us. In Him,
Katie Moore
