Reading Through The Word

January 8, 2019 by Keith & Angie Copley

Most years Angie and I set out to read through God’s Word in it’s entirety. This year we are doing a five day program which has some Old and some New Testament each day and leaves the weekend for catch-up or other study. I thought it would be interesting to post random thoughts from this reading as it correlates to our life we are experiencing. We face similar struggles to most, how to best raise kids, make financial decisions, seek God’s will for ministry, etc. So this year you will get a peek into thoughts that would normally go into a journal and see what God is teaching, how He is leading, and what we are praying for. I will not be posting every day – just sometimes as we go through the year.

Matt Chandler says, “Jesus wants YOU, not a better version of you.”

Genesis 12 / Mark 5 – The juxtaposition of these chapters in our reading guide is interesting. Abram is told to leave his home and everything he knows to GO… Yes, that’s right – an open ended GO. The demon possessed man gets healed by Jesus and is told to stay!

Abram’s story continues in Genesis 15 – As you GO, believe and worship. Everybody likes to settle, to nest, to put down roots on this planet earth. Abram, like my family, believed God had a different path and chose to live a life of being unsettled. Abram did not get to settle, he kept himself free from those weights so he could follow God at a moments notice. He obeyed by going (Gen. 12:8, 13:4), He believed GOD had a plan and it was counted as righteousness (Gen. 15:6), and as a result he was blessed and blessed others.

Lord, remind me of this when I don’t want to go. Remind me of this when my roots start to sink into things that will anchor me to this earth and make it hard to GO!. Help me to obey or directions and worship you as I GO!.

Praying for our two girls who will stay in the USA when we return to PNG in June. Praying for what to do with our house and car when we return to PNG. Praying for provision to by the tickets to get us back to PNG. Lord, it is all yours – Amen.
