Straining at the Oars

January 9, 2019 by Keith and Angie Copley

Mark 6:47-52 The disciples are struggling every time they are on their own. Oh how often we “Strain at the Oars” of life. We struggle and fight for forward progress in family, ministry, testimony, parenting, etc. with much toil and little success. Just like the disciples we attempt to go alone, then wonder why the struggle is so real.

There is a better way, the only way really – is to allow Jesus to make HIS presence known as He offers to come close. We see Moses had a similar experience when facing the challenge of The Exodus. In Ex 3:14 Moses recognizes his inadequacy, but “I AM” states He will go WITH HIM. Moses would not be alone. Later, as Moses struggled to lead the complaining, idolatrous, Israelite Nation “I AM” passes by (Ex. 33:19) just like he planned to do with the disciples on the lake.

Recognizing God’s presence changes everything. He calms the storm, gives strength, and we see progress toward our goals.

Are you aware of “I AM’s” presence in the midst of your stormy struggle? Or, are you trying harder and going alone?

Lord –  life and ministry are hard, they are often a struggle. Keep me aware of you. Aware “I AM” is present. Only you can give serenity and progress forward.
