One never knows what a day will bring.
Last Monday (the 9th of October) we returned from our trip to Las Vegas and San Diego visiting friends. Nicole picked us up at the airport and we’ve been enjoying having her and Olivia with us this week while Justin is away on a work project.
Our plans were to follow Nicole on her way home as far as Buffalo today (Friday) and do some shopping but a snow storm has closed the roads and there’s a travel ban. Over 300,000 people are without electricity.
As I looked at the weather report last night, I looked outside to see if there was any adverse weather here in the western part of the state. What I saw wasn’t snow, I could see the stars but something else going on – there was smoke!
The first thing I thought was that a neighbor was having a bon fire. The house we live in is in a summer vacation area and many of the houses are not lived in this time of year. So, I went to investigate.
The house two doors down from us was on fire so I ran back and called 911. If the fire had happened while we were gone on our trip or if it had happened while we were sleeping, all three houses would have been destroyed.
As it is, the second house received considerable damage and where we’re staying there’s a strong smell of smoke. Pray for us as we get things cleaned up. With the smell of smoke and the power being turned off, we were grateful to stay with friends for the night.
Praise God with us for His protection and for the fact that we get to have Nicole and Olivia with us for another day or so as we wait for the weather to clear.
Secure in Christ’s love,
Lance & Laura
