I remember as young missionaries in the early 70’s, Katy and I were serving in Colombia, South America. Between Spanish classes, Katy ran the overflowing mission guest home, while I ran to government offices trying to get elusive visas for new missionaries. I was also field administrator and bookkeeper.
I was tired and discouraged. I was ready to pack it up and head back to the USA.
One night I opened a small package from a church in Mobile, AL. They’d included a cassette of a recent service. During the message the pastor went into the audience and asked people to send greetings to missionaries.
The microphone was passed from one person to the next. Then I heard, "This is Felix Miller, Macon and Katy I pray for you every day."
I stopped the recorder, rewound the tape and listened again. "This is Felix Miller, Macon and Katy I pray for you every day." I carried the recorder to the kitchen and played it for Katy. "This is Felix Miller, Macon and Katy I pray for you every day."
We were not in this job alone. We were a part of the network of people making missions possible. Such a simple reminder had a powerful influence. For me it was instantaneous. And I never forgot it.
It takes a network of believers like you to accomplish such an insurmountable task as planting a thriving tribal church. And every part, great or small, brings God glory.
Think of the missionaries you know around the world — maybe lonely, tired, discouraged, wearing too many hats. What would it mean for them to hear that you care and pray for them? Can you imagine what will happen in the world of missions if every missionary is encouraged to continue on?
"This is Felix Miller, Macon and Katy I pray for you every day."
