The Uriay people of Papua New Guinea are hearing lessons concerning the main events of Jesus’ life on earth.
The evangelistic Bible lessons have helped the Uriays see that man cannot approach God on his own terms and they are amazed to realize that Jesus came down from Heaven to reestablish the broken relationship between God and man.
The Uriays are beginning to recognize Jesus as the Almighty One, the Creator. During a teaching session, missionary Elias Struik asked the group how Jesus healed the man with the paralyzed hand. Dakruma spoke up and said, “He did it just like in the beginning, by His mouth. He just spoke.”
Elias then asked, “Do we need to clean ourselves up before we can listen to God’s Talk?” For a time there was silence as the Uriays pondered this. Many agreed that they would need to get rid of their sin to understand God’s Word.
Tyob’s deep voice sounded from the far side of the room, “No, we can’t change ourselves. That is something only God can do.”
Pray that the Uriay people will continue to learn and understand about Jesus, the Creator, Healer and Savior.
