We had a very productive week last week preparing four new literacy books. We are thankful for the consultants who came out to give us guidance in writing and preparing the stories for the literacy books. Back in 2003, we had set up a literacy program using a different method. Shortly after this a school for the young children was started here so we did not feel the need to continue the literacy program. Since that time we have found that there are many older teenagers and young adults who are illiterate. We also felt that another literacy program would work better here. So, now that Aimee has completed language learning (Hip! Hip! Hooray!!) she is heading up the preparations for beginning a new literacy course. There is still a lot of prep work to be completed along with printing of books. We are not sure on the timing of when the class will begin. We want to make sure someone is here to continue it until the Tigak teachers are trained to take over and run the literacy program on their own. Literacy is key to the Tigak people being able to read and study the Tigak Bible on their own.
