This past month we had the privilege of attending the biggest cultural show
in Papua New Guinea. It was so great to be in the right place at the right
time to be part of it. As you can see from the pictures, the nationals went
all out in their traditional costumes for dances. You don’t see people
decked out like this around here on daily basis but this is how their
ancestors dressed and there are some that still remember and participate in
traditional cultural ceremonies. The sad part is that each of these
traditions is rooted in their animistic world view, a life of darkness in
desperate need of the light of the Gospel.
Ned is enjoying his time spent teaching high school students. He would
appreciate your prayers to use his time wisely each day and that he would be
able to prepare for classes quickly so he has more time to spend on his
translation job. Ned will be flying to our tribe on Oct. 7th for almost
three weeks of full time translation work. First he will do a translation
check for another translator and then be back in our home on the island for
about 2 weeks. Please pray for him to have a very profitable time doing
comprehension checking on the remaining New Testament Epistles. Finding the
right people each day to work through checking the Scripture portions will
be crucial for making a lot of progress in a short amount of time. Even
though Ned’s school break time will be working hard, please pray that just
having a change of scenery and different tasks to complete would be restful
for him!
We are greatly enjoying the blessing of being able to watch our high school
kids participate in sports. That is something we have really missed out on
over the years. The Lord is so good to allow us one year to be part of this
area of their lives. Zachary just finished up his season of volleyball and
Christina was able to learn to play rugby for the first time! This is also
Garrett’s first time to attend “real” school. It has been good for him and
challenging. Please pray for Garrett to find a good friend this year.
Linn continues to help homeschool missionary moms with needed resources and
advice, assists in various needs at the school and helps Ned with grading
homework, along with helping with other needs that arise from week to week.
