Right after Christmas we all started having Covid symptoms and realized almost all of us had gotten it at the same time. Thankfully none of us were too sick. I, Linn, was super tired and needed lots of sleep and still feel like I am getting over that part. This ended up being terrible timing for the Haskins departure on January 17th. It came down to 24 hours before they were set to leave before their last negative Covid test came in. Nothing like last minute! We have heard of many people who still test positive for months after having Covid, so we are thankful they were able to get a negative test three weeks after first symptoms. Please be praying for the Haskins as they are in two weeks of quarantine in PNG and dealing with some serious stomach virus type issues.
We found out that the very last United Nations Humanitarian flight to Papua New Guinea will happen in February. This has been the only successful way to enter to PNG during the pandemic. Since we are not making progress on getting the Tigak Bible ready for printing, Ned is going to take advantage of this last flight that we know will get him to PNG! Please pray with us as we figure out all the details in a short amount of time. Ned will travel to our main center in PNG and quarantine for two weeks. He will then hopefully be able to travel to a couple of locations and help other translators and travel back to the Tigak Tribe. One concern in our tribe is the amount of mold that will be in our house in the tribe after no one living in it the past year.
As a result of the lack of a typesetter being available, the required two week quarantine on arrival in PNG, and taking advantage of this opening to travel to PNG – we have had to make the difficult decision to delay our Tigak Bible dedication to 2022. There is just no way we can have the Bible printed and plan a special dedication with all the people that have been part of the Tigak Bible becoming a reality this year.
