Today we left at 5:30 to go to Cape Coast for our adoption court appointment. We made great time, got there early, waited 3 hours and then found out that our judge was sick and could maybe see us tomorrow. Very disappointed but this happens sometimes. So, we will be going tomorrow and catching our plane home at 10:10.
In the meantime, we all went to Cape Coast castle for a sightseeing tour. I knew it had a slave history. It is a British castle (was built originally by the Swedes as a fort). I didn’t know that out of the 35 million African slaves exported during the slave trade 25% came through this castle. We went to the dungeons and everything. It was a very similar experience to visiting Auschwitz in Poland. What these people went through just at castle before the horrible boat ride across the Atlantic is almost too much to imagine. Anyway, very glad we went there.
Maybe the scariest thing we did all week was today- driving in a van at 70 miles/hours on a paved road to Cape Coast with no seatbelt. Also, I ended up in the first row- middle= felt a little helpless (especially when we passed trucks near the crown of a hill). However, it wasn’t as bad as you would think.
Anyway, pray for our court tomorrow that the judge will be in and see us early so we have plenty of time to get back for our ride home.
Sorry boys, your sister thinks that the soccer ball is a drum. I don’t think she has learned the sport, but maybe she still will be a natural at it!
Ooooops! Sorry to hear you lost a day and a lot of travel due to the judge being out sick, but glad you have such a great attitude about it. May God have granted that you requested — a timely chance to have the needed hearing this morning Friday May 14, which is already past for you now. May His purposes be fulfilled, and you be swiftly, safely en-route back to the USA! Hope you all are well. We’ve all gotten a charge out of your blog posts, keep up the good work!!
