He is Faithful!

January 15, 2016 by Paul and Ellen Swenson

Trusting God with The “Impossible”
As we begin our year of support raising, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness.  We started out on this journey with a beautiful house in a quiet and scenic location, ministries we enjoyed in our church and a great job that Paul loved.  Now, in a year we plan to fly to Papua New Guinea and start our “new life” of learning language, moving to a remote tribal location and working with a tribe that has never heard that Jesus died for them.  So what changed?  How did we know to do this when our situation in life seemed so right as well?  The answer: God turned our hearts in a new direction.  We loved “that” but “this” is what He has made us passionate about.  Millions of people out in the world with NO Bible in their language and NO ONE to tell them the good news.  Not only that, but a loving God who chooses to use us, humans, to tell them… despite our flaws.  I have found myself many times on this journey so in awe that He would choose to use us…”really Lord, you are going to let US do THIS?”  When we started praying that God would direct, the doors flew open.  Within a few months of praying our house was sold, Emmanuella was adopted and our boys were excited about missions after going to Wayumi.  In 2014 we entered New Tribes Mission of Canada’s training center, Emanate.  Through the training God continued to prove His faithfulness through His provision for our family and through His continued work in our lives.  In December of 2015 we graduated from Emanate which to us was a testament of God’s faithfulness and the completion of one more step on our journey.

So will God be faithful this year?  Many have wondered if we can raise the funds to live in such a remote location.  We can’t, but God can.  If there is something we want people to see and understand through our family this year… it is that we serve a BIG GOD!  He owns it all and He knows each and every person in that village…our village, by name.  He has a plan.  Will His plan always look exactly like we think if should?  No, but we can trust Him.  We are not worried.  He never changes.  He is always faithful.

Pray…
  • That we would continue to trust our faithful Lord this year.
  • For our future ministry, team and village in Papua New Guinea
  • That Emmanuella will have a growing interest in learning about Jesus.

What Have We Been Up To?

Paul is in a leadership internship here in Canada until March 30th.  Ellen is playing secretary this year as we fill out paperwork for applications, raise our support, and set our sights on PNG.  We are starting our support raising adventures and are excited to share with individuals, small groups and churches what God is doing around the world.  The kids are enjoying school and the snow!
